HCP Hot Club de Portugal – The Jazz Haven

This first jazz club in Portugal, just turned 50 years old, is based in a basement in the beautiful Alegria Square, with a garden at the back side by side with the Botanical Garden. The project of the place its to convert the house above it – where the founder of the place that gave its name to the jazz school of the Hot Club (Luiz Villas-Boas) once lived – into a jazz museum.
The place its always overcrowded and it is still possible to smoke, feeling truly the atmosphere of a real jazz club: dark and almost clandestine. There is live music everyday, with renowned Portuguese and foreign jazz and fusion musicians and with students of the jazz school.
